Bribe: Bribe Norm in JDA Exposed by ACB Raid | Jaipur News

Jaipur: A bribery racket has been exposed in Zone 9 of Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) following a raid by Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on Friday. some JDA Officials revealed that similar rackets are prevalent in each of the 19 zones of the civic body.
Sources told a few officials in JDA have made it mandatory for residents to pay bribes to get their work done.
“There is now an unwritten tariff for applicants, depending on the type of application. Even if an applicant submits all valid documents, they must still pay extra above the government-stipulated rate to get the job done. There’s no way to escape this system,” he told a JDA official, requesting anonymity.
Friday’s raid and subsequent arrests are not new to JDA. In February 2022, ACB also caught officials from Zone 4 of the civic body. Five officials, including a RAS officer serving as the divisional commissioner, were arrested during that raid.
“According to media reports at the time, the RAS officer was so calm even after being caught red-handed that he reportedly laughed and remarked, ‘How can you refuse someone who brings offerings to a temple?’ There was no sense of reprimand, as if accepting bribes is now the norm,” another JDA official said.
Officials also questioned the role of agents who sit outside the JDA buildings to facilitate customer applications.
“Now that JDA is moving completely online, what is the role of these agents? JDA could set up a helpdesk with its own staff to assist applicants if they faced difficulties. For the rest of the process, there’s no need for third-party involvement,” an official said.
